Our snorkel-first sea day: two stops on Red Sea reefs with a guide, more time in the water and no island beach crowds. Gear, lunch, soft drinks and hotel pickup included for €45.
The snorkeling trip is a full-day boat trip from Hurghada with 2 stops at sea, focused on reefs and marine life. It costs €45 per person. Hotel pickup and drop-off, snorkeling equipment, a snorkeling guide, lunch on board and soft drinks are included. Children are welcome, subject to the boat operator's safety requirements; the child price is on request.
What is the Hurghada Snorkeling Trip?
Most boat trips from Hurghada are island trips with a quick snorkel on the side. This one is the other way round. Our snorkeling Hurghada day is built around the water: two sea stops on coral reefs and swimming spots, a guide with you at the reef, and lunch on the boat in between – no fixed beach stop.
That makes it the best choice if your favourite part of the holiday is floating face-down over coral watching fish. It also suits people who want to snorkel and still have a relaxed day: between stops you can lie on deck, and depending on the boat and the day's program there may be extra sea activities.
You don't need to scuba dive or have any experience. Equipment is included, and the guide helps beginners get comfortable before you swim out over the reef.
Good for couples, families, friends and solo travellers who want to see the Red Sea without diving. Want a beach too? See our Giftun Island or Orange Bay trips.

What to bring
Snorkeling trip or island trip – which should you book?
All our sea days from Hurghada cost €45 and include pickup, gear, a guide and lunch, so the choice comes down to how you want to spend your hours.
- This snorkeling trip – two sea stops, no fixed beach stop. Best if seeing coral and fish is the main reason you're going out.
- Giftun Island – snorkeling plus free time on the national-park island.
- Orange Bay and Paradise Island – one reef stop, then long beach time. Best for families, photos and sunbathing.
- Dolphin House – snorkeling around Shaab El Erg with a chance (never a guarantee) of wild dolphins.
A simple rule from our guides: if you'd be disappointed by a day without a beach, take an island trip. If you'd be disappointed by only one snorkel, take this one.
Already a confident snorkeler and curious about going deeper? A full-day diving trip is open to beginners too, subject to the diving center's requirements, or book a private speedboat and pick your own stops.
Snorkeling Hurghada for beginners and non-swimmers
One of the most common questions we get: do I need to be able to swim to snorkel? Not really – but it helps to be comfortable in water.
Snorkeling is mostly floating. Salt water in the Red Sea keeps you buoyant, and with a life vest or float you can lie at the surface and breathe through the snorkel without swimming hard. Many Hurghada operators provide life vests or buoyancy aids for exactly this reason. Tell the guide on board if you're a non-swimmer or nervous; you'll stay close to them, and some guides tow a ring float that you can hold on to.
Tips for your first time:
- Fit the mask without the strap: press it to your face and breathe in through your nose. If it stays, it fits.
- Practise breathing through the snorkel with your face in the water next to the boat before swimming out.
- Move slowly with long, easy kicks from the hip. Less splashing means less tiring and more fish.
- Never stand on the reef – it's alive, and coral cuts heal badly.
- Stay with the group and come back to the boat when the guide signals.
Children who can't swim yet can usually still enjoy the water in a vest with a parent close by – check the child policy with us before booking.
Best time of year for snorkeling in Hurghada
Snorkeling in Hurghada works all year. The Red Sea around Hurghada stays warm compared with Europe: dive guides quote sea temperatures from about 21°C in winter to around 30°C in late summer.
- Spring and autumn (roughly April–June and September–November) are the sweet spot for many visitors: warm water, comfortable air temperatures on deck and usually calm seas.
- Summer brings the warmest water but very strong sun – bring a rash vest and drink plenty of water.
- Winter water is still swimmable, but you'll feel the wind on deck. Ask us about a short wetsuit; that and a warm layer for the boat ride back make a big difference.
Wind is the real variable. On windy days the captain may switch to more sheltered reefs; that's why our itinerary says the exact spots depend on the sea. It's for your comfort and safety, not a downgrade.
Visibility in the Red Sea is typically excellent, which is why even beginners see so much from the surface.
Questions about this trip
Is snorkeling in Hurghada good?
Yes. The Red Sea around Hurghada has healthy coral reefs close to the surface, warm water all year and usually excellent visibility, so even beginners see plenty of fish from the surface. Reefs around the offshore islands, such as Giftun, are among the most visited. Our snorkeling trip includes two sea stops chosen for the day's conditions.
Do I need to know how to swim to snorkel?
No, but you should be comfortable in water. Snorkeling is mostly floating, and salt water helps you stay up. Tell the guide on board if you're a non-swimmer – you can snorkel with a life vest or float and stay close to the guide. Practise breathing through the snorkel next to the boat first.
How is this different from the island trips?
This trip is snorkel-first: two sea stops for snorkeling and swimming, lunch on board and no fixed beach stop. Island trips like Orange Bay or Paradise Island have one reef stop and then long beach time. All cost €45 with Divers Trips and include hotel pickup, equipment, a guide, lunch and soft drinks.
How much is a snorkeling trip in Hurghada?
Our full-day Hurghada Snorkeling Trip costs €45 per person. That includes hotel pickup and drop-off in Hurghada, the boat, snorkeling stops, equipment, a professional snorkeling guide, lunch on board, soft drinks and the day's water activities. Child prices depend on the booking, so contact us to confirm.
What will I see snorkeling in Hurghada?
Expect hard and soft corals and large numbers of colourful reef fish right below the surface. With luck you might spot a ray on the sand, a moray eel in the coral or a turtle. Wildlife is never guaranteed, and the guide will show you what to look for at each stop.
What is the water temperature in Hurghada?
Dive guides quote sea temperatures around Hurghada from roughly 21°C in winter to around 30°C in summer. Snorkeling is possible all year; in winter a warm layer for the boat ride back (and a short wetsuit, if you have one) makes the day much more comfortable. In summer, a rash vest protects against the strong sun.
Can children snorkel in Hurghada?
Yes, children are welcome on our snorkeling trip, subject to the boat operator's safety requirements. Many kids love their first snorkel with a vest and a parent or guide close by. Please contact Divers Trips before booking to confirm the child price, and tell us your children's ages and swimming level.
