Sunset Horse Riding in Hurghada
The desert is at its most beautiful in the last hour of daylight. Ride out as the sky changes colour and stop for photos with the sun going down behind you.
The sunset horse ride is a guided desert ride around sunset from Hurghada, with a sunset photo stop included. It suits couples and beginners. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included, timed to the sunset and your hotel's location. Duration follows the program you choose, and the price is on request. Children may take part depending on age, height, weight and riding ability.
What is the Sunset Horse Riding?
Sunset horse riding in Hurghada is built around one moment: the last light of the day over the desert. The heat eases, the shadows grow long and the sky moves from gold to pink to deep orange.
Your pickup is timed to the sunset. At the riding centre, the instructor picks a horse that suits your experience, gives a short safety briefing and then leads you out through the desert surroundings. As the sun drops, you stop at a good viewpoint for photos, then ride back to the centre after sunset.
It is a favourite with couples, honeymooners and anyone who wants holiday photos that do not look like everyone else's. Beginners are welcome; the route and pace are adjusted to the rider.
Want a longer daytime ride through desert or coastal scenery instead? See Horse Riding in Hurghada. Price on request, depending on the program.

What to bring
Why ride at sunset?
Hurghada's desert is hard work at midday: bright, flat light and strong sun. In the last hour before sunset it becomes a different place. The temperature drops, the low sun picks out every ridge of the Red Sea Mountains, and the sand and rock glow warm orange.
That is what this trip is designed around. The pickup time moves with the season so that you are in the saddle as the light changes, and the ride includes a stop at a viewpoint just for the sunset. Then you ride back to the centre in the soft light after the sun has gone.
It is also simply a calmer ride. The horses are relaxed in the cooler air, the pace is gentle, and it is quiet out there. For couples it is one of the most romantic things to do in Hurghada that does not involve a boat.
Because the time is set by the sun, your pickup will be earlier in winter and later in summer. We confirm the exact time after booking, based on the sunset and your hotel's location.
Photo tips for horseback sunset shots
You will get the best photos at the dedicated stop, not while riding. A few things help:
- Let someone else hold the camera. At the stop, ask the guide or your partner to step back so the horse, rider and sky all fit in the frame.
- Shoot toward the light for silhouettes, with the sun low behind the rider. Shoot with the sun behind the camera for warm, golden faces.
- Tap to expose for the sky on your phone so the colours do not wash out.
- Wear a colour that stands out against sand: white, red or deep blue work well.
- Keep the phone secure while riding. A zipped pocket or a small cross-body bag is ideal; you need your hands for the reins.
Photos and videos by the operator are not included in the price, so bring your own camera or phone.
A quick check before you go: charge your phone fully, clear some storage, and wipe the lens. Dust on the lens is the most common reason sunset shots look hazy.
Sunset ride or daytime ride: which one?
We offer two horse-riding trips, and they are made for different people.
- Sunset Horse Riding (this page): timed for the golden hour, with a photo stop and a gentle pace. Best for couples, photos and beginners who want a short, special ride.
- Horse Riding in Hurghada: our all-round daytime ride. Depending on the package the route can include desert, mountain, open landscapes or coastal areas. Best if you want more time in the saddle or a coastal route.
Want a sunset without the horse? The Mountain Safari and the Super Safari can also include the desert sunset, together with a Bedouin village and a camel ride.
Bring a light layer: the desert cools quickly once the sun has gone.
Still choosing? Message us the riding experience of each person and what matters most to you – photos, time in the saddle or the coast – and we will recommend the right ride honestly.
Questions about this trip
What time does sunset horse riding in Hurghada start?
The start time follows the sunset, so it changes through the year: earlier in winter and later in summer. Pickup from your hotel in Hurghada is arranged according to sunset and the selected program, and we confirm the exact time after booking based on the sunset and your hotel's location.
Can beginners do the sunset horse ride?
Yes. The instructor selects a horse to suit your experience and gives a safety briefing on basic riding technique, controlling the horse and the riding rules. The route and duration can be adjusted to the rider's level, and the pace is gentle, so first-time riders are welcome.
Is sunset horse riding good for couples?
It is one of the most popular couples' activities we offer. You ride side by side through the desert as the light turns gold, then stop at a viewpoint for sunset photos together. It is calm, quiet and does not need any riding experience, which makes it a good choice for honeymooners.
How much is sunset horse riding in Hurghada?
The price is on request because it depends on the selected program. It includes hotel pickup and drop-off, the ride with a professional guide or instructor, a safety briefing, safety equipment where required, the sunset riding route and a photo stop. Message us with your date and the number of riders.
What should I wear for a sunset horse ride?
Wear comfortable clothes with long trousers and closed shoes, and bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, water and a camera. The desert cools quickly after sunset, so a light layer is useful for the ride back. A clothing colour that stands out against the sand makes for better photos.
Can children join the sunset horse ride?
Children may take part depending on their age, height, weight, riding ability and the operator's safety requirements. Please give children's ages when booking and we will confirm with the riding centre whether they can ride. The gentle pace of the sunset ride suits many families.
Are photos included?
The ride includes a dedicated photography stop at sunset, but photos and videos taken by the operator are not included in the price. Bring your own phone or camera; the guide can usually help you take a photo of your group at the stop.
