PADI Courses in Hurghada

From your first breath underwater to working as a dive professional — four PADI courses taught in the Red Sea, with hotel pickup in Hurghada.

Our PADI courses in Hurghada follow the same ladder divers use worldwide: start with Open Water Diver, build experience with Advanced Open Water, learn to look after others on the Rescue Diver course, and turn professional with Divemaster.

Every course is taught by a qualified PADI Instructor, to PADI standards, in real Red Sea conditions. Your schedule depends on your progress, the sea and the instructor's plan — PADI courses are performance-based, so you move on when you can do the skill, not when the clock says so.

Already certified and just want to dive? Join our full-day diving trip (€60) instead. Not sure which course fits you? The table below shows what each one needs and what it lets you do — then send us your certification level on WhatsApp and we'll point you to the right start.

Never dived before?

Start with Open Water Diver. No experience needed — just basic swimming and a completed medical questionnaire.

Certified but rusty or shallow-limited?

Advanced Open Water adds the deep and navigation dives plus three adventure dives you choose with your instructor.

Want to be the calm one in the group?

Rescue Diver. You'll need the Navigation dive and current first-aid/CPR (EFR) training first.

Thinking about working in diving?

Divemaster is PADI's first professional level: 18+, Rescue Diver, 40 logged dives to start.

Why learn to dive in Hurghada?

Hurghada is an easy place to learn to dive because the water is warm all year, a wide choice of dive sites sits close to town, and the season never really closes. The sea runs from about 22 °C in February to about 29 °C in August, so only your wetsuit thickness changes.

Three things make Hurghada an easy place to learn: warm water, a wide choice of dive sites close to town, and a season that never really closes.

Warm all year. Average sea temperature runs from about 22 °C in February, the coolest month, to about 29 °C in August. Winter learners usually want a thicker wetsuit; summer learners hardly notice the water.

Sites for every level. The reefs around Hurghada range from calm, sheltered spots suitable for all levels — Ras Disha sits in a bay protected from the wind, and El Fanadir is known for gentle currents — to sandy plateaus off Small Giftun and wrecks for later courses, such as the El Mina minesweeper lying at roughly 26–33 m inside Hurghada harbour. Your instructor picks the site on the day based on wind, current and your level, so nothing here is a promise of a specific site.

Learn on holiday. Most visitors stay a week or more, which suits PADI's performance-based courses: do the theory first, then spend your days in the water, with hotel pickup arranged according to your course package. When you finish, you can keep diving the same week on our full-day diving trip or go further on a Red Sea diving safari.

Can you do the PADI theory before you fly?

Yes. Every PADI course has a knowledge part that you can finish at home with PADI eLearning before you fly, or with your instructor in Hurghada. PADI estimates about eight hours of online study for Open Water Diver, so your holiday days go to diving, not reading.

Every PADI course has a knowledge part. You can do it with your instructor in Hurghada, or online at home with PADI eLearning — the approved format for knowledge development — so your holiday days go to diving, not reading.

PADI's own estimates for the online study: about eight hours for Open Water Diver, 6–8 hours for Advanced Open Water, 8–12 hours for Rescue Diver and 10–16 hours for Divemaster (not counting Dive Theory). PADI says the Open Water course can be completed in three or four days when the theory is done through eLearning, and estimates 2–3 days for Advanced Open Water — real timing still depends on your progress and the sea.

Tell us on WhatsApp if you plan to use eLearning, so we can match your in-water days to your arrival. Bring proof that you've finished it, and bring your certification card and logbook for any course above Open Water.

Why read the PADI medical questionnaire before you travel?

The PADI medical questionnaire is a short ten-question yes/no form that every student diver completes before training. If you answer yes to any question you need a physician's approval before you can dive, so read it before you travel and see your doctor at home, not on holiday.

All student divers complete a short scuba medical questionnaire before training. The current form is the Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire, developed by diving and hyperbaric medicine experts together with the UHMS and Divers Alert Network.

It has ten yes/no questions. If you answer "yes" to any of them, you need a physician's approval before you can dive, using the Diver Medical Physician's Evaluation Form. That's much easier to arrange with your own doctor at home than on holiday, so download the form from PADI and check it before you book flights.

For Divemaster, PADI requires a physician's medical clearance within the last 12 months regardless of your answers.

Answer honestly: the questions exist because some conditions really do change the risks underwater, and the instructor cannot start in-water training without a valid form. If you're unsure about a question, ask your doctor rather than guessing — a signed approval brought from home means your first course day starts in the water, not in a clinic waiting room. The same form applies to children on the Junior Open Water course, so parents should check it too.

PADI Courses: your questions

What is the minimum age for PADI courses in Hurghada?

PADI's minimum age is 10 for Open Water Diver; children aged 10–14 earn the Junior Open Water Diver certification, with a 12 m limit at ages 10–11 and 18 m at 12–14. Advanced Open Water and Rescue Diver start at 12, and Divemaster at 18. Send us the student's age on WhatsApp and we'll confirm eligibility before booking.

Do I need to be a strong swimmer to learn to dive?

No, but you need basic water skills. For Open Water Diver, PADI asks you to swim 200 metres (or 300 metres with mask, fins and snorkel) without stopping — any stroke, not timed — and to float or tread water for 10 minutes. Divemaster has tougher swim and stamina tests.

How long does it take to get PADI certified?

PADI courses are performance-based, so there's no fixed number of days. PADI says Open Water Diver can be completed in three or four days if you do the theory through eLearning first, and estimates 2–3 days for Advanced Open Water. Weather, sea conditions and your own progress decide the real schedule; we confirm it when you book.

Can I start the theory online before my holiday?

Yes. PADI eLearning lets you complete the knowledge part at home, so your time in Hurghada goes to confined-water practice and open-water dives. Let us know you're using eLearning when you book so we can plan your in-water days around your arrival.

Do I need a medical certificate to dive?

Every student completes PADI's diver medical questionnaire. If you answer "no" to all questions, you can usually train without a doctor's note. Any "yes" means you need a physician's signed approval before diving — get it at home before you travel. Divemaster candidates always need medical clearance from a physician within the last 12 months.

Is Hurghada good for beginners?

Yes. The water is warm year-round — around 22 °C at its coolest in February and about 29 °C in August — and the area has calm, sheltered sites suitable for all levels as well as wrecks and deeper reefs for later courses. Your instructor chooses the training site each day according to conditions.

I'm already certified. Which course is next?

Open Water divers usually take Advanced Open Water next, which includes the Underwater Navigation dive you need for Rescue Diver. Rescue Diver also requires Emergency First Response (first aid and CPR) training within the last 24 months. If you just want to dive, join our €60 full-day diving trip.

How much do PADI courses in Hurghada cost?

Course prices are on request because they depend on the package — materials, equipment, hotel transfers and number of students. Send us your preferred dates, current certification, number of students and hotel on WhatsApp, and we'll reply with the schedule and final price.
