What is the best month to visit Hurghada?

For beach and boat weather, the best months are April to early July and early September to early November, with mid-October the peak. According to WeatherSpark, that window pairs warm sea with highs below 35°C. December to February suits sightseeing and desert trips more than swimming.

Hurghada has a desert climate: it is hot, dry and sunny all year. The NOAA 1991-2020 normals show only 0 to 2.3 mm of rain in any month, so rain almost never decides your dates. Heat, sea temperature and wind do.

What is the weather in Hurghada month by month?

Air highs run from 22°C in January to 37.5°C in August, and lows from 11.6°C to 28°C. The sea moves from about 22°C in February and March to 29°C in August. The table below combines several datasets, each named underneath.

Why do sources disagree about the sea temperature?

Sources differ by about 1°C in winter because they use different methods. We used seatemperature.info: its monthly averages come from satellite data combined with in-situ observations over ten years. Other pages we opened show slightly cooler winter water, so treat all figures as typical rather than guaranteed.

seatemperature.info gives 22.3°C for March and 22.4°C for February. Wikipedia, citing Weather2Travel, gives 21°C for February and March. WeatherSpark gives 72°F (about 22°C) for March. Climats et Voyages lists 21°C. For packing, assume 21 to 23°C in winter and about 28 to 29°C in August.

Which months are best for diving and snorkeling?

March to May and September to November are the calmest, most comfortable months for diving and snorkeling, according to liveaboard.com. It describes both periods as having calm seas, warm water and vibrant marine life. Summer has the warmest water. Winter is still good, but needs thicker neoprene.

Wetsuit is the main practical difference. The PADI blog says a 5 mm full wetsuit is adequate from December to April, with 7 mm for people who feel the cold. For the rest of the year it says a shorty or a shorts and rash vest combination is more than enough. The same blog says diving is excellent all year.

A snorkeling day is less affected by cold than a dive, because you stay near the surface and can wear a rash vest or shorty. Our full-day diving trip and Orange Bay island trip run through the year. Sites and stops depend on the weather and sea conditions, and the captain and guide make the final call. See also our diving hub.

Is Hurghada too hot in July and August?

July and August are hot but workable if you plan around the sun. NOAA normals show daily highs of 37.4°C in July and 37.5°C in August, with nights near 28°C. The sea is at its warmest then, so boat days are comfortable. Midday desert activity is the hard part.

Our Mountain Safari is a half-day or evening trip, and evening departures include the desert around sunset. We confirm the pickup time after booking, so in summer ask for an evening departure. Browse the desert safari hub for the other options. On the water, shade on deck and a swim between stops make the heat easy to handle.

Is Hurghada good in winter?

Yes, for sightseeing, safaris and diving, but not for lazy beach days. January highs average 22.2°C and February 23.5°C, with lows around 12°C, according to NOAA normals. The sea is about 22 to 23°C, so most people want a wetsuit for diving and a layer on the boat.

WeatherSpark names late October to late April as the best period for general tourism, with the peak in the last week of March. December is the cloudiest month in its data, but even then the sky is overcast only about a quarter of the time. Evenings are cool, so pack a jacket.

When is it windiest, and who benefits?

WeatherSpark's data puts the windier season from May 23 to October 4, with September the windiest month at 14.5 mph on average. Winds blow mostly from the north-northwest, according to Windfinder. Kite surfers benefit most. Swimmers and boat guests may notice a choppier sea on windy days.

The Kitespot rates May to October as the most consistent season, with wind probability running from about 50 percent in December to 85 percent in July. It says November to April still gives at least 3-4 kiteable days a week, though lighter wind may need bigger kites. Our kite surfing package depends on the wind on the day, so book it early in your stay. More options are on the water sports hub.

Which month is best for which type of trip?

For a first holiday with mixed plans, choose April, May, October or November. For warm-water snorkeling, choose June to October. For kite surfing, choose May to October. For desert safari and sightseeing, choose October to April.
