Hurghada in Ramadan runs on a different daily rhythm. Ramadan is the Islamic holy month of daytime fasting, and its dates follow the lunar calendar. For a visitor it changes the rhythm of the day more than the itinerary: meal times, traffic around sunset and daytime restaurant hours shift. This guide uses the sources listed below, read on 5 and 7 October 2026, and keeps what only an operator can confirm clearly marked.
When is Ramadan 2027 and when is Eid al-Fitr?
Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin on or around Monday 8 February and end on 8 or 9 March, with Eid al-Fitr on 9 or 10 March. These are astronomical estimates, confirmed locally: Egypt's Dar al-Ifta announces the start after the moon sighting on the evening of 7 February. If the crescent is not confirmed, the start moves to 9 February.

| NRIAG, Egypt (via Egypt Telegraph, 28 Sep 2026) | Monday 8 February | Wednesday 10 March |
| Umm al-Qura calendar (Makkah Live) | Monday 8 February | Tuesday 9 March |
| Gulf News (1 Sep 2026) | Monday 8 February | Wednesday 10 March |

Egyptian Streets (8 February 2026) describes Dar al-Ifta as the sole body authorised to announce the start of Ramadan in Egypt. Wego's global guide (updated 20 April 2026) also lists Monday 8 February for Egypt, so 9 February comes only from Wego's Egypt page. Book flexible dates and re-check the announcement about a week before the expected start.
Is Hurghada open for tourists during Ramadan?
Yes. Global Rescue (3 September 2026) says tourism services remain available in Egypt during Ramadan, although attraction and office schedules may be reduced. Wego says hotels continue serving food throughout the day. Hurghada is a resort town, so the changes you notice most are outside the hotel gates.
What changes in opening hours?
Wego lists government offices and banks at 9 AM to 2 PM, shops and cafes open until about 2 AM, and museums and archaeological sites at 9 AM to 4:30 PM. Global Rescue adds that independent restaurants may open later, cut their hours or close until sunset. Check hours before you walk across town.
What about eating, drinking and alcohol during Ramadan?
Eating or drinking in public during fasting hours is not illegal, according to Wego, but it needs discretion. Many restaurants screen off areas for people who are not fasting, and hotels keep serving. Alcohol service varies by hotel, so ask your hotel before you arrive.
Pure Nile Tours (January 2026) says some hotels reduce bar hours, move alcohol to a separate area or serve more discreetly. It also says alcohol from a resort bar must be consumed inside the licensed resort area. We do not state any alcohol policy for boats or trips: ask us to confirm.
How should you dress and behave in Ramadan?
Dress modestly outside beach resorts and private hotel areas, and eat, drink and smoke discreetly by day. The Russian Consulate in Hurghada, in guidance reported by Egypt Independent on 19 February 2026, asked its citizens to refrain from eating, drinking or smoking in public in daylight and to avoid loud music near mosques and residential areas.
Global Rescue says shoulders and knees should be covered in conservative settings such as mosques, markets and government buildings. A simple greeting works: Wego suggests "Ramadan Kareem".
Do boat trips, diving and safaris run during Ramadan?
We do not publish a separate Ramadan schedule. Our trip pages describe each program, and we confirm pickup times and the day's plan after booking. Ask us to confirm departure time, lunch, drinks and any change to the program for your dates before you pay.

The programs themselves are fixed in our data. The Orange Bay trip includes lunch on board and soft drinks. The full-day diving trip includes two dives, lunch on board and soft drinks. The glass boat and semi-submarine trip confirms its inclusions on booking. The mountain safari can finish around sunset, depending on the departure time.
Ramadan 2027 in Hurghada: a practical guide by activity
| Activity | What to expect | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Hotel dining | Hotels continue serving food through the day (Wego) | Eat inside the resort during fasting hours |
| Restaurants in town | Some independent restaurants open later or close until sunset (Global Rescue) | Check hours first; expect a busy evening |
| Alcohol | Varies: reduced bar hours or a separate area at some hotels (Pure Nile Tours) | Ask your hotel before booking |
| Transfers and taxis | Traffic builds before sunset and taxis can be harder to find (Global Rescue) | Plan to be at your destination before sunset |
| Island and snorkel trips | Run to the program on the trip page; we confirm timings after booking | Ask about lunch, drinks and departure time |
| Diving | Same program as the trip page; hydration matters for divers (DAN Europe) | Ask us to confirm the schedule and bring plenty of water |
| Mountain safari | Evening departures include sunset; pickup is confirmed after booking | Ask whether your pickup falls near sunset |
| Museums and sites | Wego lists 9 AM to 4:30 PM | Go in the morning |
DAN Europe advises drinking water every 15 to 20 minutes rather than large amounts before or after diving, and at least 2 litres a day on top of normal intake. It lists dehydration as a contributing risk factor for decompression sickness.
Which questions should you ask any operator before booking?
Ask every operator the same short list, in writing, before you pay. Operators run Ramadan differently, and a clear written answer protects you from surprises on the day. Use the checklist below with us or with anyone else.
- What time is pickup and what time do we return, on my date?
- Is lunch served on board, and are soft drinks included?
- Is alcohol available on the boat or the trip? Is it allowed?
- Does the price or the program change during Ramadan or Eid?
- Is there any reduced capacity or any day without departures?
- What is the cancellation and weather policy?
- Are park or environmental fees extra, and who collects them?
Our booking policy and FAQ page cover the basics. For anything specific to your dates, contact us.
Is Ramadan a good time to visit Hurghada?
It can be, if you accept a slower evening rhythm and book flexible dates. The 2027 window falls in late winter, when the weather is cooler: see our best time to visit Hurghada guide for the climate and sea figures. We have no Ramadan demand data of our own.

Eid is different. Egypt Independent reported on 24 June 2017 that Hurghada hotels were declared full just before Eid al-Fitr, driven by Egyptians holidaying after Ramadan. That is an old report, so treat it as a pattern to check, and book the days around Eid early. Plan your days with our 3, 5 and 7 day itinerary.
How does Divers Trips handle this?
Four trips relevant here have fixed programs on our site: Orange Bay at €45 per person, the full-day diving trip at €60, the glass boat and semi-submarine from €30 and the mountain safari at €35. We confirm pickup times and the day's schedule after booking. Tell us your dates and hotel on WhatsApp, and ask us to confirm anything specific to Ramadan.
Separate environmental or park fees may apply; we confirm any fee after booking. Browse all Hurghada excursions or go straight to booking.
